Welcome to the San Antonio Black International Film Festival Forum!
You've heard of food deserts that exist in marginalized communities across the globe, right? Well if I can draw a parallel to an area that the system deprives us of, alters our taste buds, and leaves us hunger for... -- a Black film desert is what it felt like when I returned home to San Antonio after 32-years spent post-college + career in Washington, DC. 🤔 I craved an outlet in my hometown which embraced films that reflected my culture, history, and subject matters of the heart. Henceforth the need, and my innate desire propelled me to join forces with community members to create a film festival that exposed nonchalant communities to the vast amount of stories, and images reflective of the African Diaspora.
SABIFF begin in 2019 with aims to grow and develop a supportive film community to educate, entertain and e-x-p-o-s-e diverse audiences to a host of Black experiences, cultures, and Creatives from around the world that are curated from my hometown San Antonio base. 🤠
